As fans of the Workationing
podcast already know, Kari and Kelly huge advocates of the digital
nomad lifestyle. The ladies have used their ability to work
remotely to travel the world, knock countless items off their
bucket lists, and generally live a more intentional and fulfilling
life. However, being location independent isn’t all sunshine,
rainbows, and killer shots for Insta.
In
this episode the gringas are keeping it very real about the fact
that becoming a digital nomad takes a lot of hard work. You need to
have a skill set that allows you to work remotely, the ability to
consistently show major ROI to clients who will never see your
face, and enough work ethic and determination to work hard even
when you’d rather be out exploring whichever awesome new city
you’re currently posted up in.
There are also logistical
issues. You’ll most likely need to ditch your rent/mortgage, find a
place to store anything you want to keep, rehome pets, breakup with
partners who don’t share your vision, find someone to handle your
mail, figure out what to do with your car, get international
travelers insurance, and much more!
On
top of that, you’ll need a lot of balls. It’s not easy to make a
big life transition under any circumstances, but when you’re
choosing a lifestyle that your friends and family aren’t familiar
with and that is, by its very nature uncertain, it can be hard to
stick to your guns. Throw in the anxiety that comes with throwing
yourself totally outside of your comfort zone, and you have a
recipe for a lot of sleepless nights and crying jags.
However, the ladies still recommend this
lifestyle to anyone. It’s not always easy, but it has consistently
been worth all the stress (and even the occasional heartache) that
has come with it.
